Primarily responsible for the day to day workings of a thriving local history museum! Duties include processing and scheduling room rental events in addition to various administrative tasks such as data entry, mail and document management, and scheduling and coordination of Museum volunteers. Requires computer literacy (Microsoft Office suite). Complete Job Description

Room Rentals
Work with perspective rental parties to promote the space and the NWMTHS offerings.
Process room rental contact and deposit payments
Diagram set-ups for each event, and inspect rooms to make sure they are in line with renter’s needs and wishes
Coordinate hosts and bartenders (as needed) for rental events
After events, complete all invoicing, follow up if necessary.
Ensure that the museum is stocked for programs and rental events- beer, wine, pop, water, ice, cups, napkins, ecc. We currently work with Flathead Beverage but it is possible to contract with the Coke distributor.

Open and receive all mail and emails on a daily basis. When appropriate, distribute amongst the museum, answer questions yourself when possible.
Administer and organize calendars for all museum programs, room rentals, and volunteers.
Code bills and invoices by account category daily upon receiving and pass them along to the accountant.
Various errands around town- gas station, ace hardware, groceries, post office, bank, library, chamber of commerce-must have reliable transportation, can be reimbursed for miles.
Order necessary office supplies and other things essential to museum functions from online retailers or local businesses, cost being a factor
Maintain correct cash amount and bill denominations in museum tills and cash boxes.
Keep thorough databases that track museum events, attendance, room rental figures, school tours, and volunteer hours.
Assist director with fulfilling grant obligations, proofreading, event planning, and coordinating meetings.
Sort by category and maintain the museum’s electronic shared drive.
Clean, organize, and administer Outlook folders.
Familiar with eBay and other online auction sites. We have much at the NWMTHS that is not part of the collection that is worth money and we would like to clear.
Promote and administer the McClaren 1895 Traveling Trunks.
Draft and mail letters twice annually for the McClaren 1895 Classroom Experience. Schedule third grade classes for the previously-designated two-week window of classes.
Create and administer tickets, spreadsheets, and seat assignments for museum events when necessary.
Ensure everything is neat and tidy in the office area. Make sure office supplies are in stock.
Research and contact contractors and services for any office related issue (copy machine, IT, ecc.)

Volunteers/ Staffing
Teach and assist volunteers with the credit card machine and run the monthly sales report from the website.
Fill in at the front desk or bookstore with a laptop as needed.
Reorganize and maintain volunteer binders and file cabinets at the front desk.
Check with volunteers on shift daily to see if they need anything.
Organize volunteer parties/ potlucks and development other ways to show appreciation.
Train, schedule, and supervise volunteers for the front desk and gift shop. Schedule volunteers as tour docents, event hosts, and bartenders as needed.
Supervise and manage any Experience Works participant the museum may have and act as a lesion to the program.

Jacob Thomas came to Montana in 2008 as a young man and loved it so much that he spent the next decade plus trying to find a way to come back. He has a MA in Museum Studies from Appalachian State University, and his career has taken him to Kentucky, Texas, and Michigan before bringing him back to Big Sky Country. He enjoys long walks in the woods and a cold brewski after a hard days work.

Laurie Happ

Membership Services

Laurie Happ was born and raised in Kalispell. She is the daughter of Norma Happ, former mayor of the city and an early supporter of the Northwest Montana Historical Society.  Laurie serves as the Office Manager at TD&H Engineering as well as the Membership Coordinator for Your Museum.

Boyd Holt


Boyd Holt is originally from Fort Worth, Texas. He lived there until his military days, which began in our bicentennial year, 1976. After eight years of service, he moved to California; after another move to Nevada, he relocated permanently to Big Sky Country.

Gerri Savory

Event Planning & Rentals

Gerri Savory came to the Flathead Valley from Minnesota when she was only three years old. She grew up in the valley and is a graduate of Flathead High. Gerri has been working with the Museum at Central School since 2009.

Jan Woods


Jan Woods is a third-generation Montanan. She has been a bookkeeper for the majority of her adult life. Jan and her husband have purchased Glacier Fur Dressing and will be taking over full-time beginning in 2019.
